holiday shopping, boarding a plane, or taking a road trip, one thing is for certain, you are eventually going to need a snack. To help you avoid the temptation of alluring not so healthy snacks in brightly colored packages, here are five healthy on the go snacks that will keep you satisfied & energized during the busy holiday season while you are away from home:
1. Fresh Veggies
Carrots, cucumber, and celery sticks are quick and easy to prepare, just chop and drop them into a reusable container. For extra flavor, add some hummus to the bottom of your container, then place the veggie sticks vertically so they are pre-dipped. Cherry tomatoes and sliced bell peppers are also tasty & portable too.
2. Bright Fruits
Choose fruits that travel well, like apples, oranges, or bananas that can get tossed in your bag without making a mess (just remember not to squash that banana). Try toting a bunch of grapes or a pint of raspberries to add a bit of brightness to your day (dried fruits like apricots or cherries can be good options, too. Just check for any added ingredients, sometimes dried fruits contain high amounts of added sugar).
3. Deli Items
If you tend to crave more savory snacks, pick up a pack of string cheese or meat sticks. Beef jerky is a good option, it’s available in many different flavors and is often packaged in resealable bags, which means you can close it up and stash it in your glove box or bag to snack on another day.
Packed with protein, nuts are a great source of energy. Take care to note the amount of sodium and keep an eye on the calories and serving amounts.
5. Sweet Treats
If you have a sweet tooth, try satisfying sugar cravings with cinnamon graham crackers, dark chocolate-covered raisins, or even trail mix. The key is moderation, but whatever you choose, be mindful of the serving size to keep your goals on track.
