Beauty Foods That Feed Your Hair, Skin & Nails From The Inside Out

We all take care of our hair, our skin, and our nails on the outside, but you also need to take care of your hair, skin, and nails on the inside too by eating nourishing, healthy foods (along with drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated) on the daily! So, I compiled a list of some edible beauty “treatments” that can help improve the look of your hair, skin, and nails from the inside out:

AVOCADO

We have all heard that healthy fats (like the kind in avocado) are good for our health. But did you know that consuming them can make your skin look better too? Yes, it’s true! The monounsaturated fats keep the top layer of your skin hydrated, so it appears soft and vibrant. A little goes a long way, so no need to overdo it. You can also use avocado as a face and hair mask too (can you say win-win?).

BERRIES

When it comes to produce, a vibrant hue is generally a great indicator of antioxidant power. Berries (like blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries) are full of antioxidants: anthocyanin, ellagic acid, vitamin C, and more. These can help to protect the skin against signs of aging as well as acne.

EGGS

One of the most important building blocks for strong hair, nails, and skin is protein. We already love protein because it gives us energy and helps us feel full, but knowing that our hair, nails, and skin crave it is just another reason to eat up! Eggs are also full of the nutrient biotin, which is good for hair and nail growth (can you say double beauty score?).

SALMON

You already know that healthy fats and protein are excellent for your skin. Well, salmon is loaded with both nutrients, plus that hair and nail growth superstar biotin. You get it all in salmon! Salmon is a bit calorie dense, though, so just keep an eye on your portions.

DARK CHOCOLATE

When it comes to chocolate and its potential health benefits, the darker the better. The flavonols and antioxidants are good for your skin, and chocolate offers an unexpected perk: compounds that reduce stress hormones. Those stress hormones can cause collagen breakdown in the skin, something we definitely don’t want. An easy-to-find dark chocolate is semi-sweet chocolate chips, so grab a bag on your next trip to the grocery store and take care of your skin while enjoying some dark chocolate!

ALMONDS

Have you ever noticed that when you are stressed, your hair seems to shed more than usual? It’s not your imagination. One thing you can do to help your body manage that stress is to get enough magnesium in your diet. One great source? Almonds! A quarter cup of almonds provides 62 mg of magnesium, is a great afternoon snack and helps nourish your hair!

THE BOTTOM LINE

Eating these foods will not only keep you healthy, eating these foods will also help keep you looking your best too. So, on your next grocery shopping trip, pick up some of these foods so your hair, skin, and nails can start reaping the benefits from the inside out and until next time, be happy, healthy, and beautiful and I hope you all are enjoying the three-day weekend!
