Transitioning Your Summer Makeup Routine To A Fall Makeup Routine
As summer fades into the crisp and colorful days of fall, it’s time to transition your makeup routine to complement the changing season. The shift from warm, sun-kissed summer looks to richer, cozier fall makeup can be an exciting transformation, so let’s go through the steps I have listed below to update your makeup routine for the fall season…
Swap Out Your Foundation
With cooler temperatures and lower humidity levels, your skin’s needs change. Transition from lightweight, oil-free foundations to hydrating, medium-to-full coverage formulas. Look for foundations with a satin or dewy finish to give your skin a radiant, healthy glow, which is especially appealing during the fall. (I really like the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20. This gives my skin radiance and medium to full coverage).
Adjust Your Concealer
As summer tans fade and you may experience some skin discoloration, consider choosing a concealer that matches your current skin tone. Also, opt for a concealer with a creamy consistency to prevent it from drying out your skin. (e.l.f.’s Hydrating Camo Concealer is one of my favorites this time of year and comes in 25 shades).
Warm Up Your Blush & Bronzer
Swap your bright and beachy blush shades for warmer, earthy tones. Terracotta, mauve, and deep rose shades are perfect for adding warmth and a touch of autumn to your complexion. Similarly, transition to a bronzer that’s slightly deeper and matte for a more natural look. (I always bring this Milani Baked Blush in Rose D’Oro back out for fall because I think it’s perfect for the season).
Experiment With Richer Eyeshadows
Fall is the perfect season to experiment with deeper and more dramatic eyeshadow shades. Incorporate warm, earthy tones like burgundy, plum, and burnt orange into your eye makeup looks. Don’t forget to add depth with matte brown or taupe shades in the crease. (I have quite a few of these e.l.f. Bite Size Eyeshadow Palettes. The formula is great, as is the pigmentation and the price is right).
Enhance Your Brows
Bold brows remain in style for the fall. Use a brow pencil or powder to define and fill in your eyebrows, giving them a more structured and polished appearance. Remember to choose a shade that complements your hair color. (I recently discovered e.l.f. Ultra Precise Brow Pencil and I am really liking it. Great color payoff and lasts all day).
Switch To Darker Lip Colors
One of the most significant changes in your fall makeup routine will be your lip color. Say goodbye to bright pinks and corals and embrace deeper shades like wine, berry, plum, and rich nudes. Matte and satin finishes tend to work well for the season. (Maybelline Color Sensational Cream Finish Lipstick in the shade Plum Paradise is my absolute favorite fall lip color to wear all season long).
Layer On The Mascara
To make your eyes pop, apply an extra coat of mascara. Lengthening and volumizing formulas can give your lashes a more dramatic effect, drawing attention to your eyes. (Essence Lash Princess Curl & Volume Mascara is my favorite from the Lash Princess Mascara Line. Length, volume & curl, you get it all with this mascara & it’s under $5).
Highlight With Subtlety
While highlighting is always in vogue, consider using a more subtle, natural-looking highlighter for fall. Opt for shades that have a champagne or soft gold undertone to mimic the warm, autumnal light. (When it comes to subtle highlighters, you can’t go wrong with Essence Pure Nude Highlighter. This has been my go-to highlighter for years).
Protect Your Skin
Even though it’s not summer, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. UV rays are present year-round, and protecting your skin from sun damage is an essential step in maintaining healthy and youthful-looking skin. (Eucerin Daily Protection SPF 30 Face Lotion is my favorite when it comes to SPF for the face).
Hydrate & Prep
As the air becomes drier, make sure to moisturize your skin adequately before applying makeup. Consider using a hydrating primer to lock in moisture and create a smooth canvas for your makeup. (I have used many hydrating primers over the years, but I always come back to Maybelline Master Prime Hydrate & Smooth Primer).
Transitioning your summer makeup routine to a fall makeup routine can be a fun and creative process. By adjusting your foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadows, lip colors, and other makeup products, you can achieve a look that complements the autumn season’s warm and cozy vibes. Embrace the earthy, rich tones and experiment with different makeup looks to make the most of the fall season’s beauty trends. Remember, makeup is an art form, and the canvas is yours to create and until next week, be happy, healthy, and beautiful!
