Your June Produce Guide
Summer is almost here, and now is the time to grab these fruits and vegetables the next time you are in the produce aisle at your local grocery store or your local farmers market, and you will be enjoying the flavors (and health benefits) of summer in no time! Here are 8 fruits & vegetables in season right now…
Cherries
Cherries of all kinds are packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that can help you recover after strenuous exercise and prevent muscle pain.
Cucumbers
Staying hydrated is crucial in the summertime, and cucumbers are a great way to add more water into your diet. They are 96% water and full of antioxidants.
Beets
Perfect in salads or hummus, beets are rich in folate, manganese and copper which can all play a role in heart health, brain function and decreased blood pressure.
Avocados
While avocados are known for being the star of trendy toasts and guacamole, they are actually a fiber powerhouse! Just one avocado provides nearly half of the recommended daily serving of fiber.
Mango
If your wellness goal is to lose weight, mango is a fantastic snack option since it’s low in calories, highly filling, and deliciously sweet.
Blueberries
Blueberries aren’t just low in calories, they are also packed with nutrients like manganese. Plus, they are 85% water so you can hydrate while you snack.
Kale
If you are tired of your go-to greens, kale is a flavorful alternative that’s full of hard-to-get nutrients like Vitamin K, polyphenols, and beta carotene.
Strawberries
The star of summer fruits, strawberries are ranked among the top sources of phenolic antioxidants which can help fight bacteria in the body.
These are just a few of the fresh fruits and vegetables available right now! So, on your next trip to the grocery store, don’t forget to look for fruits like peaches, nectarines and plums and vegetables like asparagus, carrots, bell peppers and zucchini, and until next week, be happy, healthy, and beautiful!
