My Beauty Empties (Winter Edition)
Hello Everyone! Winter is gone and spring is here and it’s time for me to clear out my used-up winter beauty products, so let’s take a dive into my winter beauty empties bins and talk about what I liked, what I didn’t like and what I would buy again starting with skincare…
Skincare
Equate Beauty Gentle Skin Cleanser ($6.98) – I picked this up to try since my favorite skin cleanser was out of stock. This is a mild, non-drying formula that will not irritate sensitive skin, and all of this is true. I liked this cleanser, but it was not hydrating enough for my very dry winter skin. After cleansing, my face felt dry almost immediately and I had to quickly get my retinol serum on so I could moisturize my skin with my nighttime moisturizer. This is probably better suited to use during the summer months when I don’t need as much moisture as in the winter. I may repurchase it again in a few months and see how it works.
Olae Skin Care Bakuchiol & Astaxanthin Oil Serum ($12.25) – This was a fantastic oil serum I used every morning during the winter months. This serum gives the skin gentle exfoliation and never dried out my skin. I may repurchase it again next winter. Also, if you cannot use retinol, I recommend giving this a try.
Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner ($3.99) – This is a really good toner! I love the light rose scent and this removes any traces of makeup left on my face after double cleansing! This also leaves my skin hydrated and refreshed. Will repurchase again.
Trader Joe’s Retinol Night Serum (with baobab seed oil, $9.99) – I love this serum! It has 0.3% retinol, is not drying (because of the baobab oil) and I have noticed a difference with the texture of my skin and my expression lines are somewhat smoothed out too! This product will be repurchased for sure!
Fruit Of The Earth Vitamin E Skin Care Cream ($3.97) – This has been my all-time favorite facial moisturizer! The cream is rich and so moisturizing. This leaves my skin so soft, hydrated and works well under makeup. I have repurchased this cream over and over again over the years because it’s just that good!
Neutrogena Acne Wash Cream Cleanser ($5.64) – I work out 5 days a week and this cleanser is a must! It contains 2% salicylic acid with micro clear technology. This cleanser is not drying, it’s gentle on my skin and gets my skin clean without stripping my skin of any moisture. This is repurchased regularly.
Chapstick ($3.88) – Who doesn’t love a tube of good ole Chapstick? Chapstick sent me a 3-pack and I used them all up! Still the same original formulation that I remember, hydrating and perfect to keep in your makeup or handbag for a quick moisture boost when your lips need some moisture.
Carmex Classic Lip Balm ($2.94) – I love this! I have been using this forever and will continue to repurchase it again and again!
Makeup
Revlon So Fierce! Mascara ($8.12) – This mascara was good although I really had to work with this mascara to build the length I wanted. It did last all day without flaking or smudging, but I will not repurchase it.
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara ($9.99)– This mascara is not what I remember when I used it a few years ago. This did not give me the length and volume that I wanted at all and even though this does have a lash growth complex in the formulation, which is good, I will not buy this again!
Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation (in shade F6, $9) – I love this foundation! It provides a good medium to full coverage, blends into the skin well, hydrates the skin and lasts all day! I will buy this foundation again.
Maybelline Dream BB Fresh Beauty Balm (in shade 110 Light/Medium, $7.33) – I love this bb cream! This gives me light coverage while evening out the skin tone, keeps my skin hydrated all day and has SPF 30 too. This is always in my makeup rotation, and I will buy another tube again.
Maybelline Perfector 4-In-1 Glow Makeup (in shade 01 Light, $9.99) – This is a must-have in my makeup routine! This gives me light coverage, great to wear alone or under makeup as a primer, and the glow this gives my skin is wonderful. Will be buying again and again!
Body Care
Equate Beauty Total Moisturizing Shea Butter Body Wash ($3.47) – I have gone through multiple bottles of this body wash during the winter months and it’s just as good as the brand name body wash and is about half the price too. This is gentle on my skin, cleanses, and rinses well and leaves my skin soft after my shower. I will continue to purchase this because I love it!
Equate Baby Aloe & Vitamin E Baby Oil ($3.98) – My skin needs all the moisture it can get so I apply this all over my body before I get into the shower. It helps keep my skin moisturized while taking a shower (and I love a hot shower). This is just an added layer of moisture I use to keep my skin from drying out from the hot water. I have been doing this for years and this is a must have in my body care routine!
Equate Beauty Petroleum Jelly ($3.97) – I have been using petroleum jelly on my feet before bed years! I slather this on my feet, cover with cotton socks, and the next morning my feet are soft, supple, and moisturized.
Suave Advanced Therapy Lotion ($4.47) – The last time I used this was last summer and this lotion was great and repurchased throughout the summer months, however this is not as moisturizing in the winter months as I thought it would be so, this will be a summertime purchase only!
Equate Beauty Cocoa Divine Body Lotion ($2.56) – This is the body lotion I was using throughout the winter months! This lotion moisturized my skin very well and lasted all day! I will definitely be repurchasing it again next winter!
Hair Care
Trader Joe’s Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Hair Mask ($3.99) – This hair mask is absolutely wonderful! This moisturizes & revitalizes my dry, damaged hair! This mask deep conditions and leaves my hair soft, silky, and manageable!
I sure did accumulate a lot of beauty and personal care trash over the winter months, but now I can toss out all the empties and start again for spring/summer and until next week, stay happy, healthy, and beautiful!
