Spring Skincare Refresh: How To Transition Your Routine For Warmer Weather
As the seasons change, so should your skincare routine! With spring bringing warmer temperatures and increased humidity, your skin may require different care than it did during the cold, dry winter months. To keep your complexion glowing and healthy, it’s time to refresh your routine with a few key adjustments.
Swap Heavy Moisturizers For Lightweight Hydration – Winter calls for thick, occlusive creams to combat dryness, but as spring arrives, your skin may need something lighter. Switch to a gel-based or water-based moisturizer that hydrates without feeling greasy. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and glycerin to keep your skin plump and dewy (I like this lightweight moisturizer from CeraVe. This provides hydration without the heavy feeling on my skin).
Incorporate A Gentle Exfoliant – Spring is the perfect time to slough off winter buildup and reveal fresh, radiant skin. A mild exfoliant, such as a chemical exfoliant with AHAs (glycolic or lactic acid) or BHAs (salicylic acid), can help clear away dead skin cells without irritation. Aim to exfoliate 1-3 times a week, depending on your skin type (my all time fave glycolic acid cream is from Alpha Skin Care. Provides a gentle exfoliation & doesn’t irritate my skin).
Don’t Skip The SPF – Sunscreen is a must all year, but with more outdoor activities and increased sun exposure, it becomes even more crucial in spring. Opt for a lightweight, broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. If you wear makeup, consider using a sunscreen mist or powder for easy reapplication throughout the day (I like this moisturizer from CeraVe. This provides hydration as well as SPF 30 protection).
Lighten-Up Your Cleansing Routine – During winter, heavy cream cleansers help maintain moisture, but in spring, a gentle foaming or gel cleanser may be a better option to remove sweat, oil, and buildup without stripping the skin. If you have dry skin, stick to a hydrating cleanser, but those with oily or combination skin may benefit from a more refreshing formula (I love this cleanser from CeraVe. I have been using this for years, it’s the best in my opinion).
Add Antioxidants For Extra Protection – Springtime means increased sun exposure, so antioxidants like Vitamin C and E can help protect against environmental damage and keep your skin looking youthful. A Vitamin C serum in the morning can brighten your complexion and boost your sunscreen’s effectiveness (I really like this vitamin C serum from TruSkin. Works well with my skin & does not cause any irritation)
Hydrate From The Inside Out – With warmer weather, staying hydrated is key for maintaining healthy skin. Increase your water intake, eat water-rich foods like cucumbers and watermelon, and consider incorporating a hydrating mist into your routine for an extra boost throughout the day (I have loved this rose water & glycerin spray from Heritage Store for years, it’s a staple in my skincare routine).
Refresh Your Makeup & Skincare Tools – Spring is a great time to do a little “beauty” spring cleaning. Wash your makeup brushes, replace expired products, and swap out heavy foundation for a lighter BB or CC cream to keep your skin breathable and fresh (Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++ from Missha is perfect, especially in the spring & summer months. This is lightweight with medium coverage that is buildable).
Spring is all about renewal, and your skincare routine should reflect that! By making small adjustments, you can ensure your skin stays balanced, hydrated, and radiant as the weather warms up. Embrace the season with a refreshed, glowing complexion and until next time, be happy, healthy, and beautiful!
