Shop Your Closet For Fall Wardrobe Essentials

Fall means changing leaves, chilly temperatures, and a wardrobe change! Time to put the tanks, tees, shorts, sundresses, and sandals away and get your closet ready for your fall wardrobe! As you unpack your fall clothes, shoes, and accessories, take inventory of what you have. Chances are you have most of the fall staple pieces in your wardrobe already like I do (which is good especially if you are on a budget that does not have the wiggle room for a fall fashion shopping trip to the mall, but if you are missing some fall fashion essentials, please read my blog post “Fall Wardrobe Essentials You Can Find At Any Thrift Store” for tips and tricks to finding fall staple pieces at your local thrift stores). I have accumulated a lot of my fall wardrobe pieces are from my local thrift stores (I love thrift store shopping), Burlington, Old Navy, H&M, Bass Pro Shops, Sam’s Club, TJ Maxx or Marshalls. So, it is time to shop your closet for these fall wardrobe essentials…

Denim

Denim comes in a variety of styles and color washes and is always in fashion no matter the season, but fall is when denim really comes into play. Pair denim with a basic T, cardigan and flats for a casual look or dress up denim with a crisp button up shirt, blazer or duster cardigan and ankle or knee-high boots. Denim is definitely a go-to fall wardrobe essential.

Leggings

Another fall wardrobe essential that is always in fashion is leggings! As with denim, leggings can be dressed up or dressed down and you can never go wrong with a good black pair, but also try colors such as gray, burgundy, olive green, navy, or espresso.

Sweaters

Chunky or cable knit, cashmere or somewhere in between, sweaters never go out of style and is a lifesaver when the temperatures drop. Pair them with your favorite pair of jeans, leggings, or skirts along with ankle or knee-high boots for a stylish fall look.

Basic Tees, Tunic Tops & Plaid Button Up Shirts

These fall wardrobe essentials are a necessity (especially basic T’s or long-sleeved T’s)! Nothing brings a fall outfit together than a basic tee, tunic top or plaid button up shirt with your favorite jeans, leggings, or skirts along with a vest, blazer, cardigan, or duster cardigan.

Dresses

Dresses are underrated. They are as simple an outfit as you will ever find. For warmer fall days, wear with a light jacket and ankle boots. For cooler days, wear tights with knee-high boots and a blazer, cardigan, or duster cardigan.

Lightweight Jackets

Don’t underestimate the staying power of a simple lightweight jacket this fall. The timeless appeal of an anorak or denim jacket will keep you reaching for it again and again to layer over your fall outfits.

Ankle Boots

Ankle boots are definitely in again this season (as they always are) and pairing them with skinny jeans or leggings and a chunky sweater is always a perfect outfit for fall and let’s not forget about knee-high boots. They are just as poplar and will dress up any fall outfit.

Vests

The versatility of this fall wardrobe essential is great. Whether it’s a duster, puffer, cargo, or a shearling version, you can throw it on over everything from your sweaters, tunic tops, basic tees or fall dresses.

Scarves

Add another layer to your fall look with a scarf this season. Autumnal hues like burgundy, green, burnt orange, golden yellow or a plaid print is the perfect finishing piece to any fall outfit.

If you are on a budget (like so many of us), shop your closet for your fall wardrobe essentials, you will probably find everything you need for the fall season, but if you are missing something in your current fall wardrobe, shop your local thrift stores or discount retailers and until next time, be happy, healthy, and beautiful!
